Strode shoots even par, Romero Valverde 73 for CU women

LEBANON, Tenn. – Senior Savanna Strode carded an even-par 72 and sophomore Raquel Romero Valverde shot one-over 73, leading Cumberland women’s golf to a third-place team finish on Tuesday at the Metro Parks/Town and Country Invitational at McCabe Golf Course in Nashville, Tenn. The tournament ends the fall schedule for the Phoenix.

Strode registered six birdies in the second round and was 3-under on the par-5’s over the 36 holes, posting a two-day total of 151, tied for eighth. Romero Valverde added four birdies on Tuesday in her round of 73 and finished the tournament with 18 pars, also finishing at 151 and a tie for eighth.

Sophomore Ana Laura Pages Preuss recorded a second-round 75 on Tuesday with 10 pars along with four birdies. She tied for 12th with a two-day score of 152.

Senior Abbey Burgdorf shot 80 in the second round with nine pars, posting a two-round score of 158, tied for 23rd, while junior Anna Leigh Cleveland finished with an 81 and a two-day total of 167, tied for 31st.

Cumberland placed third as a team, five strokes behind Belmont University. Austin Peay won the team championship with a 36-hole score of 583.
