LEBANON, Tenn. – Junior Ana Laura Pages Preuss shot even-par 72 for a three-stroke victory and junior Raquel Romero Valverde carded a five-over 77, as Cumberland women’s golf claimed first place in the rain-shortened Mid-South Conference Spring Invitational on Saturday at Shawnee State Golf Park Resort in Friendship, Ohio.
The Phoenix won the 18-hole event by four shots over the University of the Cumberlands and nine in front of the University of Pikeville. Sunday’s second round was canceled due to inclement weather.
Pages Preuss three birdies and 12 pars in her even-par round Saturday, finishing three strokes in front of Pikeville’s Boo Newsome for low medalist honors. Romero Valverde registered a pair of birdies and nine pars en route to five-over 77 for sixth place individually.
Freshman Maria Pilar Scenna posted an eight-over par 80 with nine pars and one birdie, tying for 10th, while senior Kelsey Spivey shot 82, recording three birdies and tying for 15th.
Senior Anna Leigh Cleveland netted seven pars in her round of 85, tied for 22nd, and freshman Maggie Anderson finished 36th for the Phoenix.
Cumberland plays again April 29-May 1 at the Mid-South Conference Championships at Bowling Green Country Club in Bowling Green, Ky.
