LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland’s Raquel Romero Valverde earned First Team All-Mid-South Conference honors, Ana Laura Pages Preuss garnered Second Team accolades while Maria Pilar Scenna was named Freshman of the Year and Rich Williams was voted Coach of the Year, as announced by the league office at the conclusion of last week’s conference tournament in Bowling Green, Ky.
Romero Valverde posted a 77.3 scoring average in her six rounds in three Mid-South Conference events during the 2018-19 season. The Palafrugell, Spain, native shot 83 and 73 in the fall tournament in Prestonsburg, Ky., and carded rounds of 75, 77 and 79 in the conference tourney. She also posted a 77 in the only round of the spring event in McDermott, Ohio.
Pages Preuss recorded scores of 77 and 71 in the fall tournament and 72 in the spring tourney. The Mallorca, Spain, native collected rounds of 81, 82 and 88 in the conference tournament for an 78.5 scoring average over the six rounds.
Pilar Scenna just missed making the Second Team but earned Freshman of the Year honors with an 80.3 scoring average. The Marbella, Spain, native registered scores of 78 and 77 in the fall tournament and 80 in the spring event. She carded rounds of 81, 82 and 84 in the conference tourney.
Williams helped Cumberland to a share of the Mid-South regular season championship, with CU placing third in the fall tournament and winning the spring event. It marks the second Coach of the Year award for Williams with the Phoenix women.
