COHUTTA, Ga.--Cumberland struggled on the first day of the Roadrunner Classic at Nob North Golf Course in Cohutta, Ga., today, scoring a 50-over-par, 338 to leave the day at the back of the pack.
A little over a week after finishing second to the University of the Cumberlands in the Mid-South Fall Championship, the Phoenix had difficulties carding good scores. Freshman Tilde Rolandsson led the way for Cumberland golfers, but the three birdies she recorded in the round were offset by two double bogies and a triple bogey on her way to a 10-over, 82, and tie for 27th.
Ana Laura Pages placed tied for 31st just a stroke behind Rolandsson at an 11-over, 83 with a single birdie on the second hole. Maria Pilar Scenna followed just after Pages, carding a 13-over, 85. Her round placed her at 36th, a birdie coming on fifth and two triples on three and 15.
Finishing the day at 38th, Raquel Romero Valverde shot six pars on her way to a 16-over, 88, while Ida Lihufvudh brought up the rear with an 89.
The Phoenix look to get back on track tomorrow as there are still two days of play left in the Roadrunner Classic. The team plays one more tournament next week at the Metro Parks/ Town and Country Invitational before taking a break heading into the Spring.
