COHUTTA, Ga.The Phoenix jumped one spot in the Roadrunner Invitational to seventh, shooting the fourth best round of the day with a 25-over-par, 313.

The course continued to play tough for the field of eight that has seven teams in the current Coaches’ Top-25 Poll, but Cumberland moved up the leaderboard with all the players cutting quite a few stroked off their day one totals.

Raquel Romero Valverde had the best day of all Phoenix golfers, carding a one-over, 73, to move up to 27th. The senior started her day on the back nine, recording two birdies to offset three bogeys. On the front nine Valverde earned two more birdies on two and seven, to help her improve her score by 15 strokes from the previous day.

After the second round, Tilde Rolandsson still holds the best position, t24th, on the individual leaderboard for the Phoenix. She shot a birdie on the back and front nine, but a costly triple bogey towards the end of her day on the front nine pushed her back to a six-over, 78.

Ana Laura Pages Preuss cut two strokes off her first round total, 81, but fell one spot in the overall ranking to t32nd. Preuss started her day hot with a birdie on 10, but double bogies on 11 and 13 derailed her start. The senior picked up another birdie on the front nine, finishing the day at nine-over.

Maria Pilar Scenna matched Preuss on the day with a nine-over, 81. The back nine did not go particularly well, carding three double bogies and only one birdie, but improved to shoot two-over on the front nine.

The freshman Ida Lihufvudh played very well over the course of the back nine, carding a one-over, 37, with two birdies offset by a single double. The front nine did not go well, Lihufvudh collecting two doubles and one triple bogey on her way to finishing the day 40th with a 12-over, 84.

The Phoenix looks to push further up the leaderboard tomorrow in the final day of the Roadrunner Classic. Cumberland plays one more tournament next week at the Metro Parks/ Town and Country Invitational before taking a break heading into the Spring.
