Olivieri wins weight division at Indiana Little State

LEBANON, Tenn. – Junior John Olivieri won his weight class while redshirt freshman Austin Plumlee finished fifth and sophomore Matthew Sells placed eighth for Cumberland wrestling Saturday at the Indiana Little State Championships in Indianapolis, Ind.

Oliveiri swept his four bouts at 184, winning all four in Decisions, starting with an 8-3 Decision over Indiana Tech’s Luke Smith. The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native posted a 3-2 Decision against Jack Michel from the University of Indianapolis and collected a 4-2 Decision versus Indiana Tech’s Josue Hill. In the finals Olivieri won a 3-2 Decision over Kohl Dodd.

Plumlee pinned Josh Goheen at 1:26 in his first match at 125 before dropping an 11-7 Decision to Marian University’s Christopher Sharp. The Lebanon native rebounded with a 14-2 Major Decision versus Lindsey Wilson’s Colt Olinde and pinned Lindsey Wilson’s Jacob Dodd but lost by Fall at 5:14 to Nate Keaton. In the fifth-place match Plumlee won a 10-3 Decision against Midway University’s Michael Parker.

Sells pinned Marian’s Bryan Richardson at 2:22 to begin his day at 165 before losing by Fall at 4:50 to Wabash College’s Kyle Hatch. The Murfreesboro native collected a 5-4 Decision over Lindsey Wilson’s Thomas Ray and a 6-3 Decision versus Lindsey Wilson’s Bryce Hoffman before dropping an 8-0 Major Decision to Wabash’s Daylan Schurg. Sells lost by Fall at 1:40 to Ancilla College’s Tykease Baker in the seventh-place bout.

Sophomore Dallas Miles dropped his first match at 157, a 15-8 Decision to Lindsey Wilson’s Mark Taijeron, but the Louisville, Ky., native pinned Midway’s Jackson Araneta at 4:11 and won an 8-3 Decision against Wabash’s Cody Snook before losing a 7-1 Decision versus Indiana Tech’s Jon Watkins in the wrestleback.

Cumberland heads to the Smokey Mountain Duals in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., on December 16, facing Midway University, Reinhardt University and Lyon College.
