LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland’s Anthony Maia registered his third win of the day, securing a spot in the semifinals, while Nathan Walton stayed alive in the wrestleback in the night session of the 62nd Annual NAIA Wrestling Championships on Friday in Des Moines, Iowa.
Remaining matches in the wrestleback and all main draw semifinals take place Saturday starting at 10 a.m. CT at the Jacobsen Exhibition Center.
Maia posted a 9-7 Decision over Baker University’s 15th-ranked Colby Johnson at 149 in the quarterfinals. The Palm Coast, Fla., native faces Grand View’s second-ranked Devin Reynolds in the semifinals.
Second-ranked Walton dropped a 6-4 Decision to Grand View’s fourth-ranked Lawton Benna at 174 but rebounded with a 15-0 Tech Fall against 19th-ranked Jarad Swank from the University of the Cumberlands. The Brownsburg, Ind., takes on Embry-Riddle’s sixth-ranked Daniel Butler on Saturday.
Seventeenth-ranked Keshawn Laws finished his stay at the national tournament with a 5-3 defeat against Midland University’s 11th-ranked Tristan Zamilpa at 141.
Thirteenth-ranked Olivieri recorded a 6-5 Decision versus Williams Baptist’s Jeff Haley but lost a 10-2 Major Decision to Southeastern University’s 10th-ranked Jason Davis.
