Maia finishes fourth, Walton seventh for CU wrestling

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland junior Anthony Maia finished fourth and freshman Nathan Walton placed seventh for the Phoenix on the final day of the 62nd Annual NAIA Wrestling Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Maia was pinned at 1:09 by Grand View’s second-ranked Devin Reynolds in the main draw semifinals. The Palm Coast, Fla., native rebounded with a 9-5 Decision against Menlo College’s third-ranked Terrill Sidner but lost by Fall at 2:32 in the third-place match to top-ranked Tres Leon from the University of the Cumberlands.

Second-ranked Walton lost by Fall at 6:31 to Embry-Riddle’s sixth-ranked Daniel Butler but recorded an 8-3 Decision in the seventh-place match against Missouri Valley College’s 12th-ranked Daniel Tipton.
