LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland University’s Elizabeth Surdam was named the TranSouth Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after collecting her fifth victory and second shutout of the season, as announced by the conference office Monday.
Surdam made seven saves in a 1-0 victory over Davenport University on Sunday. The Gallatin, Tenn., native allowed one goal and made six saves in CU's 1-0 defeat against Bethel University last Wednesday. The freshman has given up just four goals in six contests totaling just over 540 minutes in 2011.
It is the second Player of the Week honor for Surdam this year. Cumberland hosts Bryan College on Tuesday before heading to Lyon College for a match Saturday.
