LEBANON, Tenn. – Caitlin Williams and Anna Ayers both scored in the first half and Georgetown College staved off a furious comeback effort, defeating Cumberland 2-0 in women’s soccer action Tuesday evening in Georgetown, Ky.

The loss is the first in nonconference action this season for the Bulldogs (9-3-0), who came out a bit flat and allowed Williams to score on an assist from Alessandra Jansen in the fourth minute. Ayers goal came in the 33rd minute on assists from Bea Cameron and Liz Yoder.

Cumberland woke up in the second half, taking 15 of the team’s 16 shots, but CU was unable to find the back of the net on this night, as Georgetown keeper Cathie Shaver recorded eight saves for the Tigers (7-4-2). Bulldog goalie Elizabeth Surdam also posted eight saves.

After playing seven matches in the last 21 days, Cumberland gets a break and does not play again until next Tuesday at Trevecca Nazarene at 5 p.m.
