Ndebele wins triple jump at Middle Tennessee Invite

LEBANON, Tenn. – Bumnene Ndebele won the triple jump, Shemar Salmon placed third in the 800-meters and Kalea Barnett finished fourth in the shot put and weight throw for Cumberland track and field Saturday at the Middle Tennessee Invitational in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Ndebele cleared 48-feet, half-an-inch to win the triple jump while Cornelius Ross III was third in the event with a mark of 45-11.75.

Salmon finished third in the 800 in 1:59.17 while Tyler Williams was fifth in the 55-meters in 6.58. Koby Story and Parker Kuchek placed second and third, respectively, in the 55-meter hurdles with times of 8.85 and 8.99. The men’s 4x400-meter relay of Williams, Camryn Jacobs, Will Marsh and Rico Briscoe was second in 3:31.81.

In other field events for the men, Josiah Scott, Caleb Staten and Nick Reynolds finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, in the shot put with marks of 44-11.5, 43-11.75 and 37-5.25. The same three individuals were seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively, in the weight throw with marks of 43-7.75, 41-5 and 37-6.75.

Jacobs placed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 20-10 and Ross III was seventh (18-1.75).

Sonora Thompson finished fourth in the 55-meters in 7.31 and ninth in the 200-meters in 26.34 while Cimone Toppin was seventh in the 55 in 7.56.

Barnett placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 37-1.25 and the weight throw with a mark of 46-7.5. Mahogany Huddleson finished sixth in both events (32-4.25 in shot put, 42-4.75 in the weight throw) while Kara Smith was seventh in both events (31-10 in shot put, 31-4 in weight throw). Megan Stacy was ninth in the shot put (29-4.75) and Sydney Clere placed eighth in the weight throw (29-8.75).

Robert Morris netted the first seven points of the third set, including two kills from Andrade, one by Von Borstel and three Cumberland errors. Von Borstel and Andrade added kills and a block by Claffy and Andrade made it 11-1 Eagles.

Cumberland will participate in the 3rd Annual Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships on Monday, February 11 in Birmingham, Ala.
