Casey Surma begins his second year as a graduate assistant in Sports Information at Cumberland.
The Dunkirk, N.Y., native spent two years at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has experience doing play-by-play and color work for the Big Ten Network and his college's radio station 90.3 KRNU. Surma is passionate about audio and video editing and started his own weekly sports podcast with a friend to continue to improve on his broadcasting and editing skills.
During his time at Cumberland, Surma will handle the responsibilities of the day-to-day reporting on athletics teams including game notes and recaps, game and season stats, and postgame information. He will assist in handling all of the department's weekly and gameday social media graphics as well as managing social media accounts.
Surma has also displayed his talents calling a few sporting events on the Cumberland Sports Network while also creating videos and graphics for the Cumberland social media accounts. Surma also helps in the promotion of all athletic events.
He earned his Associate's Degree in Individual Studies from Jamestown Community College in May 2017 and a Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communications degree and a minor in English from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in May 2020. Surma is currently enrolled in the master's program for Sports Management at Cumberland.
