Fanning named NAIA Scholar-Athlete

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland baseball player Chris Fanning was named an NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete by the national office last week during the NAIA National Championships in Lewiston, Idaho. Student-athletes must be a junior or senior and carry a cumulative 3.5 grade-point-average or above to quality for the national award.
 
The Huntland, Tenn., native played in 35 contests this season, mostly as a pinch-runner, scoring 17 runs. Fanning graduated last month with his master’s in Business Administration holding a 3.60 GPA.
 
He played in 97 career baseball games at CU, collecting three hits and three RBIs and scoring 52 runs. Fanning also played football during his career at Cumberland.
