LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland’s Will Locante was named the TranSouth Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday after tossing a one-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts last weekend at Lyon College. The lefthander claimed his second Pitcher of the Week honor in three weeks and the fifth this season by a Bulldog hurler.

Locante continued his stellar work on the mound, tying his career-high with 13 strikeouts in CU’s 11-0, six-inning victory in the second game of Friday’s doubleheader at Lyon College. The Memphis, Tenn., native allowed just two baserunners, walking one, and retired 12 straight hitters before the free pass to the next-to-last batter of the game.

Locante now has three straight double-digit strikeout performances, five in his last five starts and six total for the season. He leads the TranSouth Conference with 90 strikeouts in just 61.1 innings of work, ranks fifth nationally in strikeouts per nine innings (13.21) and seventh in total strikeouts. He is 6-2 with a 2.64 earned-run-average, having lowered his ERA more than two runs over the last five starts.

Cumberland plays at Tennessee Wesleyan on Tuesday at 1 p.m. and finishes the regular season next Thursday and Friday at home against Mid-Continent. Thursday’s doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. and Friday’s single game begins at 2 p.m.
