LEBANON, Tenn. – Carlos Moseley homered, Mykel Gordon drove home the winning run in the 10th inning and Travis Dohr got the final nine outs after a strong start from Polo Portela, as Cumberland came from behind for a 3-2 victory over Reinhardt University in the season opener Friday in Waleska, Ga.

The Phoenix and Eagles conclude the three-game series with a pair of nine-inning games Saturday beginning at Noon CT at Ken White Field.

Portela worked seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He did not walk a batter, hit one and struck out three, retiring 15-of-16 batters after hitting Reinhardt leadoff hitter Daniel Rodriguez to start the contest. The Eagles did not get a hit until the seventh, picking up three singles to take a 2-1 lead.

Hector Morales and Moseley each posted two hits for the Phoenix, who struck out 11 times against three Reinhardt hurlers. Cumberland did not take advantage of six walks as well, stranding nine runners in the contest.

Reinhardt managed only four hits and seven total baserunners against Portela and Dohr. Eagles starter Jesus Palacios tossed five innings, allowing one run on two hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Connor Hawkins worked 2.2 innings of relief, giving up one run on three hits with three strikeouts, and Heriberto Casasola (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts in 2.1 innings.

Rodriguez was hit to start the bottom of the first for Reinhardt and went to second on a sacrifice bunt from Matt Trawick. Rodriguez stole third with one out and scored on a fly ball to leftcenter by Matthew Vaccaro for an early 1-0 Eagles edge.

Moseley’s line drive cleared the leftfield wall with two outs in the fourth, knotting the game at one.

Portela worked around an error to leadoff the fifth, a dropped fly ball in centerfield by Rayden Sierra, but the Eagles finally broke through in the seventh.

Shermon Graves singled with one out and Kaleb Swayze found a hole up the middle for a two-out single. Andres Ugarte then singled to shallow right, plating Graves for a 2-1 Reinhardt advantage.

The Phoenix evened the contest again in the eighth thanks to some clutch hitting as well. Sierra walked with one out and went to second on a wild pitch. Nick Mira then dumped a single into short rightfield, plating Sierra with the tying run.

Morales singled to center to start the 10th inning for Cumberland and Sierra drew a walk, but Morales was forced out at third on a bunt attempt from Mira. Gordon followed with a single to left and Sierra slid in just ahead of the throw with the go-ahead run.

Dohr (1-0) worked around a Rodriguez singled in the eighth, picking off the runner at first, as well as a leadoff walk to Swayze in the 10th. The righthander struck out four in his three innings of relief.
