LEBANON, Tenn. – Tryouts for the 2017-18 Cumberland University cheerleading and dance squads and mascot tryouts will take place this month, with cheer tryouts set for April 14-15 and dance and mascot tryouts on April 29 at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center on the CU campus.
A cheer clinic will take place on Friday, April 14 from 4-7 p.m. and tryouts will be held Saturday, April 15 from 9-11 a.m. Minimum skills required for cheerleaders include ability to lead a crowd, appearance and poise, spirit and enthusiasm, coordination and rhythm, motions/technique/jumps, partner stunts, tumbling and chants.
Dance squad tryouts will take place on Saturday, April 29 from 1:30-4 p.m. Dance squad members who tryout must bring 16 counts of jazz-hip hop and demonstrate leaps, kicks and splits.
Interested individuals must bring $10 cash to the tryout. No personal checks please; only cash will be taken.
Approximately 16-20 spots are available for cheer and 10 spots for dance, including male and female, and alternates may be appointed. Scholarship money is available for all team members, though not everyone on the squad will receive aid.
Those interested must currently be a Cumberland University student or have received a letter of acceptance from the CU Admissions department.
