Phoenix All Girl Stunt team wins at Mid-South Conference Championship

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The Cumberland cheerleading team finished sixth in the Mid-South Conference Championship Saturday at Bowling Green High School. The Phoenix placed first in the All Girl Stunt with a score of 154.4.

Cumberland placed sixth with a score of 37.7 in overall performance, while the University of Pikeville took home the championship with a score of 85.03. In the game day competition the Phoenix placed third with a score of 28.65, just 1.5 points away from tying Pikeville for first.

The Phoenix fell to fourth place in the mixed stunt event with a score of 193.1, but was able to come back strong and win first place in the all-girl stunt by recording a score of 154.4, while Pikeville followed behind placing second with a score of 96.9.

The Phoenix had five student-athletes earn Academic All MSC honors. The student-athletes that received the award were Lindy Archie, Alyssa Brim, Jessica Garrison, Shelby LaHammer, and Krista Payne. In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved at least sophomore academic status.

Kalea Barnett was awarded the Champions of Character award Friday night at the Conference banquet at the National Corvette Museum.
