Bulldogs Get Two in Home Tournament
December 3, 2007
Over the weekend, the Cumberland University Bulldogs were able to grab two wins in the Rosa Stokes Classic at the Dallas Floyd Center. In their first game, the 'Dawgs defeated Fisk University, 74-55. Junior guard Thomas Douglas led the way with 20 points in only 21 minutes of play. Senior forward DeCorey Young also contributed a solid performance by scoring 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
In their second game, the Bulldogs got terrific point guard play from freshman Johnny Kuchar, who's eight points and eight assists were key to beating the University of the Cumberlands Patriots (of Kentucky), 69-62 on Saturday night. To win, the 'Dawgs knew they were also going to need production from their bench, and that's exactly what they got from both Jason Langellier and Channing Tucker, who scored 11 and nine points, respectively. In all, the Bulldogs' bench outscored the Patriots' bench, 40-10.
"Defensively and offensively, we were committed to playing a team game, and that produced a positive result for us tonight," CU Head Coach Lonnie Thompson said.
Cumberland, with a record of 4-2, will begin a tough road stretch this week with games against Division II powerhouse Montavello College on Friday night and Oakwood College on Saturday night.
