LEBANON, Tenn. – Ronald Bushner’s halfcourt shot was grabbed by Landon Bertram and putback as the buzzer sounded, enabling Oakwood University to defeat 19th-ranked Cumberland, 64-62, Monday night in Huntsville, Ala. The officials allowed the basket without any discussion even though the shot seemed to be released after the horn sounded.

Jamar Finley led the Bulldogs (2-1) with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Brandon Springer added 12 points and Thomas Douglas had 11. But CU committed 22 turnovers in the contest, enabling the Ambassadors to stay in the contest despite OU shooting just 36 percent from the floor.

Cumberland led 32-23 at the half but Oakwood battled back in the second period. James Doggette led the Ambassadors with 15 points, while Eric Adams and Bertram both netted 12 for the victors.

CU continues its stretch of six games in nine days with a road contest at St. Catherine College Wednesday in St. Catharine, Ky., and then takes on Bluefield College Friday in the Lindsey Wilson Classic in Columbia, Ky.
