Finley's 23 leads CU triumph
LEBANON, Tenn. – Jamar Finley scored 23 points with eight boards and Thomas Douglas added 21 points in 19th-ranked Cumberland’s 82-57 triumph over Berry College in the Berry College Classic late Friday in Rome, Ga.
The Bulldogs (2-0) scored 52 points in the paint and forced Berry into 21 turnovers, which CU converted into 25 points. Cumberland took a 41-30 advantage at halftime with a 16-5 run over the final five minutes of the half, highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers from Douglas and a pair of baskets by Quentin Turner.
Berry could not pull closer than nine points in the opening 10 minutes of the second half and the Bulldogs finally were able to extend the lead with a 13-2 run, with Finley contributing five points and Turner four.
Brandon Springer added 13 points, nine boards, four assists and four steals for CU, which shot 53 percent from the floor and limited Berry to only 33 percent shooting.
Cumberland takes on Middle Tennessee in an exhibition Saturday at 4 p.m. at Murphy Center. The Bulldogs play three more times on the road in the coming week, at Oakwood University on Monday, St. Catharine College on Wednesday and versus Bluefield College at the Lindsey Wilson Tournament on Friday.
