Springer nets 24 in loss at Middle Tennessee
LEBANON, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee put together a 20-0 run at the start of the second half, breaking open a close game en route to an 87-54 victory over Cumberland in exhibition men’s basketball action Friday at Murphy Center.
Cumberland trailed just 37-30 at halftime and Andrew Ayodeji scored the first point of the second half on a jumper, but the Blue Raiders (3-3) scored the next 20 points, including five points by Montarrio Haddock and four from Theryn Hudson.
Middle Tennessee outscored the Bulldogs, 50-24, in the second half, with the Blue Raiders shooting 51 percent from the field compared to just 36 percent for CU. The home team also scored 41 points off 28 Cumberland turnovers in the contest.
Brandon Springer scored a game-high 24 points for the Bulldogs and added six rebounds, but the senior was the only player in double figures for Cumberland.
James Gallman hit four 3-pointers and posted a team-high 19 points for Middle Tennessee. Haddock and Hudson both scored 13 points and J.T. Sulton added 12 points for the Blue Raiders.
Cumberland plays at Hiwassee College in a doubleheader with the women on Wednesday, December 2 at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs return home Friday, Dec. 11 against Fisk Univ. as part of the Rosa Stokes Classic.
