Cold shooting derails Bulldogs

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland shot just 22 percent in the first half and 31 percent in the game en route to a 66-41 loss to St. Catharine College Friday night in the Andrew Elswick Memorial Tournament in Georgetown, Ky. The Bulldogs will play the loser of the Evangel Univ.-Georgetown College contest Saturday at 1 p.m. in the consolation game of the tournament.
Cumberland (1-5) was just 5-for-23 from the field in the first half against the Patriots, falling behind 40-11 at halftime. The Bulldogs committed 28 turnovers in the contest and hit only 2-of-10 from 3-point range.
Freshman Walter Simon led CU with 12 points and five rebounds, while senior Brandon Springer scored 11 points with five boards. Sophomore Josh Pierce led the Bulldogs with six caroms.
Ervin Williams scored 21 points with nine rebounds for St. Catharine, while Brandon Johnson posted 13 points and 11 boards. Josh Edwards also scored 13 points off the bench.
