DJ Chaffin finishes in Top 10 at MSC Championships
DJ Chaffin placed eighth in singles and sixth in doubles in Friday's MSC Championships.

LEBANON, Tenn. – Junior DJ Chaffin finished eighth and senior Theo Shipp placed 12th in singles and Chaffin and senior JR Clemons posted a sixth-placing showing doubles, leading the Cumberland bowling team in the Mid-South Conference Singles and Doubles Championships on Friday at Ken-Bowl Lanes in Louisville, Ky.

Chaffin averaged 214 and totaled 1,070 pins over five games, 52 pins behind singles winner Michael Fonseca from the University of Pikeville. UPike claimed three of the top four spots in singles and Bethel University finished fifth, sixth and seventh, ahead of Chaffin. Shipp averaged 199 and totaled 995 pins for his 12th-place showing.

JR Clemons and junior Margaret Moss placed 34th and 35th, respectively, with pin falls of 914 and 910, while freshman Anh Nguyen was 45th (858) and junior Danielle Chaffin finished 53rd (820). Sophomore Jenn Fitzgibbons came in 58th (785) and sophomore Chris Stewart was 60th (741).

In doubles DJ Chaffin and Clemons finished with 1,984 pins over five games, placing sixth, while Shipp and Nguyen had 1,853 total pins, finishing 14th. Fitzgibbons and Moss were 26th with 1,695 pins and Stewart and Danielle Chaffin came in 28th with 1,561.

The Mid-South Conference Team Championships take place Saturday with a double-elimination Baker format bracket. The Bulldogs are the defending men’s champions in the MSC.
