LEBANON, Tenn. – Sophomore Keaton Gaffney and freshman Garang Madut were the top finishers for the Cumberland cross country teams Saturday in what was just short of a monsoon at the Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.

Gaffney paced six women’s runners for the Bulldogs, placing 93rd among 289 competitors on the 5K course in 21:49.60. The Mt. Juliet, Tenn., native has been the team’s top finisher in all four races this fall.

Junior Zeddy Koech posted a time of 22:37.59, placing 131st, while freshmen Alesa Steiner (23:32.74) and Emily Thurman (24:16.04) placed 162nd and 177th, respectively. Senior Candice Ray finished 189th in 24:49.88 and sophomore Chelsea Reeves was 206th in 26:23.95.

Madut was the top finisher for the men for the second straight week, placing 117th among 320 competitors on the 8K course in 29:17.00. Freshman Tanner Harp finished 128th in 29:31.72, while fellow freshmen Spencer Rearick (32:26.73) and Richie Palmeiri (33:35.28) placed 221st and 235th, respectively. Junior Devin Rickard was 238th in 34:02.63.

Cumberland races again October 19 in the Viking Open at Mt. Berry, Ga., the team’s final event before the Mid-South Conference Championships on November 9 in Rio Grande, Ohio.
