Gaffney, Madut both place 55th at Berry Invite

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland sophomore Keaton Gaffney and freshman Garang Madut both finished 55th in fields of over 175 competitors and junior Zeddy Koech, freshman Alesa Steiner and freshman Tanner Harp all placed in the Top 100, leading the Bulldog harriers at the Berry Invitational on Saturday in Mt. Berry, Ga.

Gaffney posted a time of 26:08.25 on the 6K course, while Koech finished in 26:48.98 and Steiner came across in a time of 28:22.06. Freshman Emily Thurman placed 102nd in 28:55.11, senior Candice Ray was 113th in 31:17.43 and sophomore Chelsea Reeves registered a mark of 31:38.72 for 117th. It was the first event this season in which the women ran six kilometers.

Madut finished in a time of 28:39.60 on the 8K course and Harp was 75th in 29:32.97. Freshman Spencer Rearick placed 119th in 32:26.99, while junior David Cheers came across in 33:24.16 (126th), freshman Richie Palmeiri registered a mark of 34:12.34 (133rd) and junior Tyler Shankles was 141st in 37:34.21.

Cumberland next competes in the Mid-South Conference Championships on Saturday, November 9, in Rio Grande, Ohio.
