Madut, Harp both place in Top 20 for CU harriers

LEBANON, Tenn. – Garang Madut and Tanner Harp both finished in the Top 20 for the men and Keaton Gaffney and Alesa Steiner placed in the Top 25 for the women, leading the Cumberland cross country teams at the 16th Annual Shawnee State Invitational on Friday night in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Madut covered the 8K course in 28:38 for 13th place, while Harp came across 18th in 29:42 at Earl Thomas Conley Riverside Park in West Portsmouth. Spencer Rearick, Austin Meyn and David Cheers were 33rd, 34th and 35th, respectively, with times of 33:03, 33:12 and 33:47 and John Daugherty completed the Bulldog contingent, placing 39th in 39:38.

Gaffney and Steiner paced the women’s side, finishing 24th and 25th, respectively, in 22:43 and 22:47 on the 5K course. Savannah Pitt came across in 24:24 for 28th place, while Chelsea Reeves was 32nd in 26:53 and Ally Johnson finished 33rd in 32:09.

The race was held on the same course that will host the Mid-South Conference Championships in November. Cumberland runs again September 27 at the 44th Annual Patty Forgey Invitational in Rio Grande, Ohio.
