LEBANON, Tenn. – Sophomore Garang Madut and junior Keaton Gaffney were the top finishers for Cumberland on Saturday at the Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.

Madut completed the 8K course in 28:06.85, placing 125th, while sophomore Tanner Harp came across in 28:35.85 for 159th among 350 runners. Sophomore Spencer Rearick placed 261st in 32:34.75 and freshmen Austin Meyn and Evan Cole were 265th and 271st, respectively, with times of 33:03.67 and 33:45.81. Senior David Cheers crossed the finish line in 34:36.41 (274th) and freshman John Daugherty was 281st in 37:12.11.

Gaffney paced the women for the first time this season, finishing 210th in 22:10.02 on the 5K course. Sophomore Alesa Steiner was 237th in 23:02.65, while junior Savannah Pitt came across in 24:30.34 (271st) and junior Chelsea Reeves placed 288th in 26:36.33. Sophomore Christi Armstrong placed 290th in 27:53.84 and junior Megan Hacker finished 293rd in 28:10.84.

Cumberland has two more events before the conference championships, racing October 18 at the Berry Invitational and Oct. 25 at the St. Louis Fall Classic.
