Madut, Gaffney pace harriers at MSC Championships

LEBANON, Tenn. – Sophomore Garang Madut finished 37th and junior Keaton Gaffney placed 38th, leading the Cumberland cross country teams at the Mid-South Conference Championships on Saturday at Earl Thomas Conley Riverside Park in Portsmouth, Ohio.

The Bulldog men finished sixth in the team standings and the women were eighth at the conference meet.

Madut completed the 8K course in 29:32.5 for 31st, while sophomore Tanner Harp came across in 30:55.7 for 37th and sophomore Spencer Rearick was 42nd in 33:16.4. Freshmen Evan Cole and John Daugherty finished 45th and 49th, respectively, with times of 34:16.7 and 36:35.9, while senior David Cheers was 50th (36:54.5).

Gaffney paced the women’s team on the 5K course in 22:34 and sophomore Alesa Steiner placed 40th in 22:42. Junior Savannah Pitt finished 54th in 26:24, while junior Chelsea Reeves, sophomore Christie Armstrong and junior Megan Hacker were 57th, 58th and 59th , respectively, with times of 28:11, 28:45 and 29:58. Freshman Ally Johnson was 61st in 33:05.
