
LEBANON, Tenn. – Freshman Riley Killian placed 77th and senior Garang Madut finished 66th, pacing the Cumberland cross country teams late Saturday night at the BROOKS Memphis Twilight. The race featured nine Division I and seven Division II programs and more than 225 runners in the men’s and women’s races.
Killian covered the 5K distance in 19:49.98, the best time for a freshman since the cross country program was revived five years ago, while sophomore Claudia Tepox finished 109th in 20:41.86. Freshman Amber Mays was right behind in 111th, crossing the finish line in 20:51.92.
Senior Alesa Steiner led three runners almost in order, with Steiner placing 142nd in 22:30.38, with sophomore Michaela Postell next in 22:40.89 and sophomore Gavin DuVall finishing 145th in 22:51.80.
On the men’s side Madut posted a time of 21:31.78 and freshman Jerry Rojas came in 86th in 21:51.14 on the four-mile course. Senior Tanner Harp placed 99th in 22:12.90, while freshman Jacob Royster finished 109th in 22:26.61 and sophomore Chris Swann was 115th in 22:38.35.
Junior Kason Halfacre placed 126th in 23:15.37 and sophomore Carlos Tirado crossed the finish line in 23.33.85 for 131st. Sophomore Michael Rogers posted a time of 23:34.48 and senior Spencer Rearick finished with a time of 25:10.61.
Cumberland is set to run in the Mid-South Conference Preview on September 10 in Bowling Green, Ky., and the Rhodes Invitational back in Memphis on Sept. 17.
