Gammons ties for second at MMC Invite

LEBANON, Tenn. – Sophomore Ryan Gammons posted scores of 73-75, finishing at four-over par 148 and tying for second to lead the Cumberland men’s golf team Monday and Tuesday at the Martin Methodist Spring Fling at the Peninsula Golf Course in Gulf Shores, Ala.

The tournament was the opening event of the spring for the Bulldogs on the par-72, 6,525-yard course that included seven teams and 47 individual competitors.

The Dyersburg, Tenn., native trailed Bethel University’s Josh Thomas by a shot after his opening-round 73. His second-round 75 tied for the second lowest round on Tuesday, as well, behind an even-par 72 from low medalist Kyle Long of Lambuth University.

Junior Dustin Thomas tied for sixth after carding rounds of 76-78, while freshman Austin Garrett round out a Bulldog trio that finished in the Top 10, as the Smithville, Tenn., native tied for 10th with rounds of 77-79. Senior Austin Whitmer tied for 16th for CU, posting rounds of 81-80; junior Guy Nardo tied for 22nd with scores of 79-84; and sophomore Caleb Evans finished 24th after posting rounds of 75-89.

Cumberland will next play in the Trevecca Spring Invitational on March 28-29 at Old Hickory Country Club in Old Hickory, Tenn.
