Henderson places fifth, Steeger sixth to lead CU men

LEBANON, Tenn. – Freshman Nick Henderson carded a final-round even-par 72 and freshman Adrian Steeger posted a three-over 75 for Cumberland men’s golf Tuesday at the Wolf Pack Spring Invitational in Abita Springs, La.

Henderson placed fifth individually, three strokes behind Loyola University’s Philip Nijoka for individual medalist honors. Nijoka shot a final-round five-under par 67, erasing a three-stroke deficit for the victory.

Steeger tied for sixth after his three-over 75 on Tuesday, dropping four spots in the standings after a first-round two-under par 70.

Junior Jacob Nolen recorded a five-over par 77 for his second round, tying for 35th, while sophomore Reece Gaddes shot an 82, tying for 29th. Junior Josh Wiseman finished with an 85 for 45th place.

Cumberland dropped two spots in the team standings to fourth, 16 strokes behind tournament winner William Carey. CU hosts the Phoenix Invitational on April 1-2 at Old Hickory Country Club in Old Hickory, Tenn.
