LEBANON, Tenn. -- The Mid-South Conference announced its men's golf preseason coaches poll this morning, selecting Cumberland to finish second just behind Lindsey Wilson.

The Phoenix have been a constant fixture at the top of the MSC in recent years, capturing the Conference Tournament back-to-back-to-back seasons. Despite entering another year with a high preseason ranking, Head Coach Rich Williams is more interested in seeing how they play in tournaments then what others think of his team.

"We do not put much stock in preseason polls," said Williams. "We will know how good we are when we tee up in Memphis."

The Phoenix return a pair of freshman phenoms from last year's Conference Tournament Championship team. Nick Henderson and Adrian Steeger were not only the low scorers for the team, but also earned All-MSC first team recognition for their play. This young core alongside talented incoming freshmen, set Cumberland up well for this season and the foreseeable future.

"We return the top two freshmen in the conference last year, and I am really excited about the incoming freshmen, Tomas [Acotto] and Isaac [Walker]," Williams spoke.

Despite falling one vote shy of tying Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) for first place in the conferenence at 43 voting points, Cumberland earned the lion's share of first-place votes, receiving five of the eight total votes. The Blue Raiders, 44 voting points, took the remaining three first-place votes.

Campbellsville (Ky.) follows closely behind the leading pair with 39 voting points, while Georgetown (Ky.) captured fourth place with 32 points.

Cumberlands (Ky.) is fifth, getting 22 total voting points. Conference newcomer, Thomas More (Ky.), finished sixth with 16 votes.

Pikeville (Ky.) and Shawnee State (Ohio) brough up the rear in the poll, tying for seventh with 14 points each.

The Phoenix open their 2019-20 season at the NAIA Memphis Shootout at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tenn., over September 9-10.
