LEBANON, Tenn. – Tiago Reichert scored in the 63rd minute and Martin Methodist held on for a 1-0 victory over Cumberland Thursday afternoon in men’s soccer action in Pulaski, Tenn. With the loss the Bulldogs will host a TranSouth Championships quarterfinal match Sunday against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
Cumberland (5-6-2, 3-3-1) tallied only seven shots in the match, four on-goal against Red Hawks keeper James Coleman. MMC took 14 shots in the victory, seven against CU keeper Michael Michailidis.
The very physical match saw six yellow cards, four against the Red Hawks, and 20 total fouls.
If Union wins its match this evening against last-place Freed-Hardeman, it would create a three-way tie for the fifth, sixth and seventh places in the conference. Only two of the three teams can make the conference tournament, which starts this weekend. If Union loses, then Cumberland would host Trevecca Nazarene Sunday by virtue of the Trojans victory last week over Lyon College.
