Monday, October 19, 2009
LEBANON, Tenn. – JJ Henderson scored just before halftime and Bradley Williams and Devon Ternent added second-half goals in Cumberland’s 3-0 victory over Union Univ. in men’s soccer action Saturday at Friendship Christian School.
Cumberland (4-3-1, 2-0-0 TSAC) allowed just five shots in the match to Union, and keeper Michael Michailidis did not record a save. With the victory the Bulldogs moved into first place in the TranSouth.
Neil Howard assisted on the first two goals of the match for CU, including Henderson’s second goal of the campaign in the 42nd minute. Williams netted his second goal of the year in the 58th minute and Ternent’s header off a corner kick in the 60th minute put the match away for the Bulldogs.
Michailidis moved to 4-1-0 on the season in goal, while the Bulldog defense did a superb job in limiting opportunities for Union (3-8-0, 1-2-0).
Cumberland plays three matches this week, all on the road, because of rescheduling matches canceled because of rain. The Bulldogs play Trevecca Tuesday at 7 p.m., then at Martin Methodist Thursday at 7 p.m. and finally at Mid-Continent Saturday. Cumberland finishes the home schedule next week against Freed-Hardeman on Thursday, October 29 and versus Bethel Univ. on Saturday, Oct. 31.
