Eight clubs earn NAIA Scholar Team award

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cum Eight clubs earn NAIA Scholar Team award LEBANON, Tenn. – Eight Cumberland University athletic teams posted team grade-point-averages of 3.00 or higher for the 2011-12 academic year, earning NAIA Scholar Team honors, as announced this week by the national office. Teams must record a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution to be eligible for the award. The team GPA includes all varsity student-athletes certified as eligible.

Women’s golf maintained the highest team GPA within the department for the third consecutive year, with women’s tennis right behind. A total of 741 teams nationally received the award. Seven Cumberland teams earned the NAIA Scholar Team award for the 2009-10 academic year, including women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s tennis, football, baseball and softball, and eight garnered the honor in 2010-11, including men’s golf, men’s soccer, men’s tennis, softball, volleyball, women’s golf, women’s soccer and women’s tennis.
