LEBANON, Tenn. – Harry Mason scored in the 81st minute to give Cumberland a 1-0 victory over Shawnee State in a match the Bulldogs dominated statistically on Saturday in men’s soccer action at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field.

The Bulldogs (6-8-1, 4-5-0 Mid-South) won their fifth consecutive match overall and have moved from dead last in the conference to a tie for fifth in the final regular season standings. CU will travel to Campbellsville University for a quarterfinal match in the conference tournament next Saturday.

Cumberland outshots the Bears, 23-8, in the match, including 15-5 in the second half, but was unable to crack the scoring column until Mason’s unassisted score in the 81st minute. The match was a very physical outing, with six yellow cards handed out and 29 total fouls called between the two teams.

CU keeper Sully Shattuck made three saves in net for the Bulldogs, while Shawnee goalies Thomas Carbonari and Jordan Cross combined for eight saves.
