LEBANON, Tenn. – Luke Wilson’s goal in the 67th minute was the game-winner and came just after Cumberland cleared the potential go-ahead score off the line, as the Bulldogs kept their season alive with a 2-1 victory at Campbellsville University late Saturday night in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Championships.
With the win the Bulldogs (7-9-1) move into the semifinals and will now face second-ranked Lindsey Wilson at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Columbia, Ky. Cumberland lost 3-1 against the Blue Raiders earlier this season when they were the top-ranked team in the nation.
Bradley Williams put the Bulldogs ahead with an unassisted score in the 36th minute, but Campbellsville’s Ramiro Sanchez knotted the match with a goal in the 43rd minute. Wilson’s tally was also unassisted and his fourth goal of the year.
The Tigers (13-4-1) outshot CU, 18-8, in the match, including 11-4 in the second half, but Cumberland keeper Sully Shattuck had just two saves and his teammates helped him on the other in the 63rd minute on a shot from Roraigh Yearwood. Max Malachiyev also had two saves in net for Campbellsville.
