Men win fifth straight with 1-0 victory at Pikeville

LEBANON, Tenn. – Josh Armstrong scored on an assist from Marty Owens in the third minute and Cumberland posted its second straight clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over the University of Pikeville on Saturday in Pikeville, Ky.

The Bulldogs (6-4-1, 4-1-0 Mid-South) won their fifth straight match overall and improved to 2-2-0 away from home this season with the victory. Cumberland posted just eight shots in the outing but limited the Bears (1-4-0, 0-3-0) to only four shots in the 90 minutes.

Armstrong netted his fourth goal of the year while Owens recorded his fourth assist. Cumberland keeper Ian Hamilton did not have a save in the win, while Pikeville’s Diego Rivas posted two saves.

Cumberland plays at No. 3 Lindsey Wilson on Tuesday at 7 p.m. before returning home Saturday to take on Fisk University at 1 p.m.
