LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland’s Pedro Rodrigues was named the TranSouth Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday after posting a pair of singles victories and one doubles win last week for the Bulldogs.
Rodrigues won three of his four matches for the week, including both singles wins at No. 3. He defeated Western Kentucky's Craig Kirchgessner, 6-1, 6-2, and came back to win, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, over McKendree University's Barnabas Toth.
In doubles Rodrigues and Na'im Azhar won 8-6 over WKU's Arul Selvan and Kirchgessner but dropped an 8-4 decision to McKendree's Gabor Toth and Luciano Misitrano, both at No. 1 doubles. The freshman is now 8-4 in singles and 9-3 in doubles this year for the Bulldogs.
Cumberland will play Martin Methodist on Friday in the semifinals of the NAIA Qualifying Tournament at The Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.
