LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland’s Pablo Borrero and Angelica Sepulveda were selected as the Mid-South Conference Tennis Players of the Week on Tuesday after both players won all four of their matches in wins for the Bulldogs.
Borrero, a freshman from Pereira, Colombia, who enrolled in January, helped CU win a pair of outings against ranked opponents. He defeated 10th-ranked Bethel University's Paolo Vecchi, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 3 singles and Borrero and Andres Burgos won 8-4 in doubles against Vecchi and Nikola Slavik.
Against 17th-ranked Campbellsville, Borrero won 7-5, 6-4, against Sebastian Marot and Borrero and Sebastian Nava posted an 8-2 win versus Pontus Blum and Alejandro Soriano. Borrero improved to 9-2 this spring in singles and 6-5 in doubles.
Sepulveda, a freshman who hails from Bucaramanga, Colombia, blanked Bethel's Dasha Klyuyenko and Sepulveda and Antea Dedić posted an 8-1 win against Klyuyenko and Michella Douglas.
Against 16th-ranked Campbellsville, Sepulveda won 6-3, 6-2, versus Anna Tumanyan and she and Dedić posted an 8-1 victory against Tumanyan and Haley Dallas. Sepulveda is now 6-3 on the season in both singles and doubles.
Cumberland plays at the University of Pikeville on Wednesday and at Georgetown College on Friday before hosting Lindsey Wilson on Saturday at the Tommy Gray Memorial Courts. Both LWC teams are ranked in the Top 5 nationally.
