Men's tennis blanks Georgetown

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland swept all six singles matches in straight sets and all three doubles outings, as the ninth-ranked Bulldogs won their fifth straight with a 9-0 victory over Georgetown College on Friday in Georgetown, Ky.

Cumberland (12-2) takes on fourth-ranked Lindsey Wilson for first place in the Mid-South Conference on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Tommy Gray Memorial Courts on campus.

CU started quickly, with two very easy doubles wins, as 21st-ranked Antonio Manuel Marcelo and Pedro Rodrigues defeated Gustavo Echeverria and Ryne Least, 8-2, at No. 1 and Andres Burgos and Jeremy Fleming won 8-1 at No. 3 over Ross Phelps and Zach Thomas. Pablo Borrero and Sebastian Nava claimed an 8-5 triumph at No. 2 versus Jacob Loveland and Chris Bartlett.

In singles 19th-ranked Marcelo defeated Echeverria, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1, Rodrigues won 6-4, 7-6 (1), over Bartlett at No. 2 and Borrero claimed a 6-1, 6-1, win at No. 3 against Least. Burgos posted a 6-0, 6-2, victory at No. 4 versus Loveland, while Nava won 6-0, 6-0, over Thomas at No. 5 and Fleming registered a 6-2, 6-2, victory against Josh Clay at No. 6.
