Cumberland drops 5-2 decision to Middle Georgia
Axel Lucich posted singles and doubles wins in CU's 5-2 loss Friday to Middle Georgia.

LEBANON, Tenn. – Axel Lucich and Thiago Lopes posted a doubles victory and Lucich picked up a single win, but Middle Georgia State registered two wins in doubles and three more in singles in a 5-2 victory over No. 21 Cumberland in men’s tennis action Friday in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Cumberland (1-2) faces SCAD-Savannah at 5 p.m. Central Time tomorrow in the Green and Gold Invitational.

The Knights (3-2) started the match with two wins in singles, including an 8-6 victory at No. 1 by Nishanth Rebello and Filip Seatovic over Anatoliy Lashkul and Jakov Thirkin. Jordan Clayton and Octavio Tamola posted an 8-3 win at No. 3 against Alejandro Rosas Garcia and Jose Ortega Vela and Cumberland’s Lopes and Lucich collected an 8-6 triumph at No. 2 versus Colby Gandy and Alvaro Conesa.

In singles Rebello posted a 6-2, 6-2, win at No. 1 over Lashkul while Conesa claimed a 6-3, 6-1, victory at No. 4 over Tshirkin and Elliot Wharton defeated Ortega Vela at No. 6, 6-4, 7-5.

Lucich recorded the only Cumberland win in singles with a 6-2, 6-1, decision at No. 5 versus Seatovic. Lopes led Gandy at No. 2, 3-6, 7-5, 3-1, when their match was stopped and Rosas Garcia and Tomalo were knotted at one in the third set when that match was also stopped.
