CU men's tennis loses at No. 7 Lindsey Wilson

LEBANON, Tenn. – Jose Ortega Vela and Dylan Nelson won a tiebreaker in doubles, but seventh-ranked Lindsey Wilson won the other two doubles outings and all six matches in singles in an 8-1 victory over No. 22 Cumberland in men’s tennis action Friday in Columbia, Ky.

LWC’s seventh-ranked Denis Porcic and Raul Mendez defeated Thiago Lopes and Axel Lucich, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles and Alonso Tellez and Ignacio Huertas collected an 8-5 victory at No. 3 versus Jakov Tshirkin and Anatoliy Lashkul at No. 3. Ortega Vela and Nelson posted a 7-4 win at No. 2 in the tiebreaker over Tomas Deppiagio and Javier Raya at No. 2.

Tellez started the singles with a 6-1, 6-2, victory at No. 3 against Lucich before 29th-ranked Mendez posted a 6-2, 6-4, win at No. 2 over Lopes and 44th-ranked Huertas won 6-1, 6-1, versus Tshirkin at No. 4. Porcic, ranked 21st nationally in singles, outlasted Lashkul, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, at No. 1, while Deppiagio defeated Ortega Vela, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 5 and Raya recorded an 8-3 win at No. 6 against Nelson.

Cumberland plays again Monday at home against William Woods University at 10 a.m. and hosts Auburn Montgomery on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.
