OWENSBORO, Ky.--Cumberland men's tennis starts the season and Mid-South Conference Fall Invitational with a 7-0 sweep over Georgetown College in the Quarterfinals.
The Phoenix advance to play the University of the Cumberland in the tournament's semifinals tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. The Cumberlands defeated Shawnee State 7-0 this morning.
The Phoenix picked up the doubles point after winning two out of the three matches. Dan Slapnik Trost and Adrijan Hrzic took care of Logan Smallwood and Matt Smith 6-3 in the No. 3 slot. The team of German Suarez and Felipe Coelho Ferreira defeated Stephen Taylor and Zach White 7-5.
N'Goma topped Cole Wilson in the No. 1 singles position winning a tough match in two sets, 7-6, 7-6. Adrijan Hrzic handled Parker Clarke in two 6-2, 6-1. Suarez picked up a 6-4, 7-6 win over Zach White in two sets.
Vaughan defeated Tsuga Hirose rather easily, winning 6-0, 6-2. Slapnik Trost won in three after losing the first set and Colomban cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Logan Smallwood.
"We played well, Georgetown has gotten a lot better," head men's tennis coach Thiago Lins said. "Doubles was very close. Jackson, Sacha, and Adrijan all played very well and took care of business quickly. Hughes, German, and Dan had tough matchups, but came out on top."
