Four trackstars earn bids to national championships

LEBANON, Tenn. – Four Cumberland men’s track and field team members – Bumnene Ndebele, Charlies Shimukowa, Cornelius Ross III and Tyler Williams – qualified for the 54th Annual NAIA Championships set for February 28-March 2 in Brookings, S.D.

Shimukowa posted times of 59.19 in the 400-meters and 1:56.20 in the 800-meters to earn bids in both events. He recorded the eighth best time nationally in the 800 and No. 11 in the 400.

Williams qualified 22nd in the 60-meters in 6.92 while Ndebele and Ross III each collected berths into the national championships in the triple jump. Ndebele registered a mark of 48-1.75 while Ross III posted a mark of 46-4.

The 400-meter preliminaries take place March 1 at 1:25 p.m., with the 60-meter prelims at 2:35 p.m. and the 800-meter prelims at 3 p.m. The triple jump is scheduled for March 2 at 1:30 p.m.
