LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland juniors Ishmael Arnold and Kalea Barnett were voted Mid-South Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week on Monday for their performances at the Falcon Classic over the weekend in Montevallo, Ala., as announced by the league office.
Arnold dominated the decathlon, winning the 400-meters in 50.03 and the high jump (6-feet, 2-inches) along with placing second in the 100-meters in 11.19, the long jump (20-feet, 6.5-inches) and the shot put (34-feet, 1.5-inches) on Friday.
On Saturday the Antioch, Tenn., native won the discus (104-feet, 4.5-inches) and finished second in the 110-meter hurdles in 17.62 as well as third in the 1500-meters in 4:46.06. He was fourth in the pole vault (7-feet, 11.25-inches) and fifth in the javelin (109-feet, 9.5-inches). Arnold finished with 5,759 points, more than 600 ahead of Morehouse College’s Jovan Rembert, who posted 5,111 points.
Barnett registered a pair of first-place showings and a fourth-place finish at the Falcon Classic.
The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native won the hammer with a toss of 145-feet, 2-inches among 13 competitors and was fourth in the discus with a mark of 109-feet, 9-inches, both on Friday. She returned Saturday to win the shot put with a mark 39-feet, 7.75-inches.
Cumberland runs again April 5-6 at the Hilltopper Relays in Bowling Green, Ky.
