Eight Phoenix men, two women to participate in NAIA Championships

LEBANON, Tenn. – Eight men and two women will represent Cumberland University at the NAIA Track and Field Championships set for May 23-25 in Gulf Shores, Ala., as announced this week by the national office.

Junior Kalea Barnett will participate in the shot put and junior Riley Kilian will run the marathon for the women. The shot put takes place May 24 at 1 p.m. while the marathon is set for May 25 at 6 a.m.

Men’s relay teams in the 4x100 and 4x400-meters both qualified for next week’s national championships, with junior Ishmael Arnold, senior Charles Shimukowa and sophomore Tyler Williams running in both events along with freshman Shemar Salmon, junior Travon Wimley, freshman Will Marsh and junior Bumnene Ndebele. The 4x100 is set for May 23 at 3 p.m. and the 4x400 takes place May 24 at 8:15 p.m.

Shimukowa will participate in the 800-meters on May 24 at 2:20 p.m. while Ndebele qualified in the triple jump, set for May 25 at 1:30 p.m. Williams runs in the 100-meters on May 24 at 3:10 p.m. and Cornelius Kipchumba also qualified in the marathon for the Phoenix along with Kilian.
