LEBANON, Tenn.-- Three Phoenix student-athletes earned bids for the 2020 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships that will be held in Gulf Shores, Ala., from May 20th-22nd for their performances in the Tom King Classic Half Marathon little over a week ago in Nashville.
The three runners qualified for the marathon event, matching the total the team placed last year. Riley Kilian was the only qualifier on the women's side, reaching the A Standard with a time of 1:25:55 to be the third female finisher. Kilian participated in the NAIA nationals marathon event last year on her way to a 15th place finish.
Both of the men that participated in the event also qualified. Joel Barlow led the way, clenching an A Standard time with his 1:12:54. The event in May will be his first time competing at the national level for the track and field team, although he took part in the 2018 Cross Country Nationals. Jerry Rojas was the other qualifier, qualifying for the first time with a B Standard time of 1:13:55. Barlow was the fifth overall finisher, while Rojas finished seventh.
The outdoor season gets started on March 20th with the Falcon Classic in Montenvallo, Ala.
