Men's Track and Field finishes second in MSC Championship

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.- After day Two of the Outdoor Mid-South Conference Track and Field Championships, the Cumberland Men finished in second place behind Lindsey Wilson College by 11 points with 197.

Camryn Jacobs and William Chandler put the Phoenix on the board quickly, as they placed 1st and 2nd in the Decathlon. In the 10,000-meter Ethan Rhoden placed sixth with a time of 33:17.76 while Joel Barlow finished ninth with a time of 33:25.20. Koby Story was able to find a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdle with a time of 16.23. Georget Pontillo was able to place 3rd in the 400-meter with a time of 49.78, while Will Marsh finished eighth with a time of 53.78.

Desmond Maclin dominated the track in the 100-meter and 200-meter as he placed first in both with times of 10.84 and 21.55. Story placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.11. Tobi Oniyide finished second in the 200-meter with a time of 21.91. In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Denis Kiplagat finished third with a time of 9:46.05, while Luke Freeman finished seventh with a time of 10:28.61. The Men’s 4x800m team that included Valentin Baudrier, Andrew Cullins, Will Marsh, and Pontillo finished 1st with a time of 7:59.80.

In the 5000-meter race walk, Ethan Rhoden finished third by recording a time of 28:17.68, while Aidan Crockett finished in fourth with a time of 28:20.07. The Men’s 4x100m team that included Dante Bertrand, Desmond Maclin, Jaylen Poole, and Oniyide placed second with a time of 42.11. The Men’s 4x400m team that included Bertrand, Maclin, Baudrier, and Pontillo placed third with a distance of 3:20.76.

In the 1500-meter, Denis Kiplagat recorded another top-five finish as he placed fourth with a time of 4:01.95. Baudrier, Freeman, and Crockett were able to place ninth, 14th, and 22nd in the 1500-meter with times of 4:08.37, 4:12.73, and 4:23.01. Pontillo and Baudrier were electric on the 800-meter as they placed first and second with times of 1:56.09, and 1:57.40. Will Marsh and Andrew Cullins were able to place tenth and 17th in the 800-meter with times of 2:02.20, and 2:09.02.

In the 5000-meter, Denis Kiplagat placed sixth with a time of 15:50.21, Ethan Rhoden placed eighth with a time of 16:13.00, Joel Barlow placed tenth with a time of 16:29.63, and Aidan Crockett placed 19th with a time of 17:38.21.

In the hammer throw, Josiah Scott secured fifth place with a distance of 43.99m, while Caleb Staten placed 13th with a distance of 36.38m. Cumberland dominated the long jump as Camryn Jacob placed second with a distance of 6.67m, Jaylen Poole placed third with a distance of 6.60m, and Ronald Ndlovu placed fifth with a distance of 6.53m.

William Chandler was able to secure another top-5 finish for the Phoenix as he placed 3rd in the Javelin throw with a distance of 45.52m, followed up with Josiah Scott placing 20th with a distance of 28.64m. Scott continues to show out as he places fifth in the shot put with a distance of 14.19m, while Caleb Staten places 17th with a distance of 10.81m.

In the high jump, Jaylen Poole placed fifth with a height of 1.85m, Ronald Ndlovu placed 6th with a height of 1.75m, and Georget Pontillo placed 13th with a height of 1.65m. In the triple jump, Jaylen Poole brings home another first-place finish for Cumberland with a distance of 14.43m. Bumnene Ndebele followed behind, coming in 5th with a jump of 13.35m, while Ronald Ndlovu came in seventh with a distance of 13.27m. In the final field event, Josiah Scott finished fifth in the discus throw with a distance of 42.62, while Caleb Staten placed 22nd with a distance of 25.97m.

The Phoenix will be competing in the Outdoor Track & Field National Championship On May 26-28 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
