Lebanon, Tenn.-- In his first year as head coach, Chris Padilla has released the 2023 men’s volleyball schedule which features six home court appearances.
The Phoenix will face four NAIA top 25 teams including conference foes Campbellsville University and Georgetown College. Campbellsville holds the No.4 spot, as released in the 2022 preseason polls, while Georgetown is sitting at No.7.
The two other ranked components Cumberland will see this year are Aquinas College, ranked at No.12, and No.8 Jamestown University.
Cumberland is set to open their season on January 28 in Memphis, Tenn. with two matches in a tri-style tournament.They will first take on Limestone University that morning and then faceoff with Edward Waters University.
The Phoenix will have their home opener early this year as their third match of the season when Georgetown will head to the Dallas Floyd Arena on February 1. They will stay at home for their next match on February 16 with a contest against Rio Grande University.
Cumberland will head on the road for another tri-match, this time at Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Ky. They will first battle with the Campbellsville Tigers and then they will see Mt. Vernon University, with both matches taking place on February 17.
From Campbellsville, the Phoenix will head to Crestview Hills, Ky. for a conference matchup with Thomas More University on February 18.
The following week, Cumberland is set for back-to-back days of matches, starting with Life University at home on February 22. The Phoenix will immediately head on the road to Midway, Ky. to take on the Midway University Eagles on February 23.
The Phoenix will have just a day to prepare for another tri-match on the road at Georgetown College on February 25. They will first see Aquinas College in the morning and then will take on the Georgetown Tigers that afternoon for their last matches of the month.
Cumberland will open up their last month of regular season play on March 4 at Rio Grande for two matches, first against the host and then versus St. Andrews University that afternoon.
Cumberland will have another home appearance on March 7 against Lawrence Tech University before heading on the road to Judson College.
Judson, located in Eligin, Ill., will host a two-day tournament starting on March 10 when CU will face the University of Jamestown and Morningside University. The following day, March 11, Cumberland will battle Cardinal Stritch University and Central Christian College.
The Phoenix will have a three-game stretch of home matches, starting on March 14 with their second battle against Thomas More. The Phoenix will see Campbellsville University again on March 17, this time at their home court in the Dallas Floyd Arena.
Senior Night is set for March 23, when the team will honor their seniors and take on Midway University for a second time.
To wrap up the regular season, Cumberland will head to Life University for two matches on March 25. Their first contest in the trimatch will be against Reinhardt University and then they will immediately face off with host Life University.
The men’s volleyball Mid-South Conference tournament is set to begin on March 30 in Bowling Green, Ky. The championship match will be held on April 1.
